Riding Safely

 
  • You can ride e-scooters on sidewalks and paved trails, not on the roadways or bike lanes.

  • You must be at least 16 years old to ride shared e-scooters.

  • Wearing a helmet is required to ride a shared e-scooter!

  • One rider per scooter. Double riding is strictly prohibited!

  • Do not drink and ride! Riding a scooter under the influence of alcohol is dangerous and a criminal offence.

  • The speed limit is 15 km/h.

 
  • Ride safely! Riders are asked to respect pedestrians and those moving slower than you, use your bell to alert those you are approaching, don’t zig zag between pedestrians, and be cautious of those coming out of store fronts.

  • Park responsibly! E-Scooters should be parked in a Furniture Zone (the area for all street furniture, street lights, recycling and waste receptacles, bicycle racks, parking meters, and areas that act as a buffer between the roadway and the pedestrian sidewalk or trail) and must not be parked in a way that obstructs or interferes with the sidewalk, trail, or edges of the Furniture Zone.

In the absence of a Furniture Zone, E-Scooters must not be parked in a way that impedes movement across or on a sidewalk (including movement of pedestrians using mobility-assistance devices), trail or any area of access to any buildings.

E-Scooters can not be parked in locations within or on:

  1. A roadway or in any area or way that impedes vehicular traffic from moving on a roadway, parking or accessing driveways;

  2. Loading zones;

  3. Accessible parking zones;

  4. Wheelchair ramps, Bicycle ramps or curb ramps;

  5. Bridges;

  6. Center median islands;

  7. Within 0.3 metres from a roadside curb or edge

  8. Within 1.5 metres of an access to a garage or driveway;

  9. Street furniture that requires pedestrian access (benches, pay parking stations, bus shelters, etc.);

  10. Within shrub beds or within 0.5 metres of trees;

  11. Within 5 metres of a fire hydrant;

  12. Within City Parking Spaces;

  13. Within any area that obstructs utility accesses waste bins, transit access, doorways or other accesses to buildings.

  14. Within the area designated as the St. Albert District; Chamber Farmer’s Market during the hours of 10:00PM Friday Evening through to 5:00PM the following Saturday; from June 1 to October 31.

Do:

  • Park your e-scooter upright in the 'furniture zone,' in line with bike racks, benches, trees and garbage bins.

  • Consider the needs of residents using mobility scooters and wheelchairs.

Don't:

  • Don't park in a way that will block or inhibit other sidewalk users, including those in wheelchairs who likely need more room to get by.

  • At transit stops, don't block the boarding zone, either at the front or the rear

  • Don't park on narrow sidewalks

  • Don't block curb letdowns

  • On pathways, park to the side of the pathway on the grass

  • Do not block doors, driveways, ramps, stairs, handrails, or other access points.
